Social Security Commission HQ
This competition concept was birthed from the inevitable need for a remarkable form in a precinct heavily influenced by symbolic existing buildings. Surrounded by the Supreme Court of Namibia, Hilton Hotel, and the dynamic and diverse architectural expressions in Independence Avenue in Windhoek, the parti was established on respecting the immediate signs and symbols within the vicinity while moving towards an idealized future for the city’s architecture. The conceptual masses are collocated in three lateral expressions while pursuing programmatic requirements and environmental performance and sustainability goals. A cleared articulated promenade in the main street engages with street life, drawing urbanites into the commercial spaces in the lower levels, and on the other co-dominant façade, a public square allows visual engagement with the Supreme Court complex, almost mimicking the planning ideals of classical architecture antiquity.
